Suffered, yet they believed

Rev 2:8 “To the angel of the church in Smyrna write: These are the words of him who is the First and the Last, who died and came to life again.

History shows the mistakes of the past as we learn from things like’s of slavery and the holocaust, the crimes against humanity through colonialisation the age of discovery where natural resources were exploited worse still the people. specially as we look at the insanity and obsessive dictator Adolf hitler, who had a vision to establish a pure Arian race to rule the world.

In the same Vein the early church at the end of the first century suffering under the influence of the Roman empire who went around martyring the Christian for their faith. The current problems in those time was an economy issue. Does this ring any bells?
History shows us that the fall of the Roman empire fell as the result of a lack of finances or taxes not being conveyed to west of the empire. This was during the time christians suffered being burnt as lamps or light!s in the streets of Rome. The result of an economy down turn in Rome.
Who said history doesn’t repeat itself? So what is the world facing right now….

Over two hundred years believers suffered persecution under the empires rule.
This community of believer is the “church of Smyrna”
which mean’s bitter or afflicted.

Rev 2:8 “To the angel of the church in Smyrna write: These are the words of him who is the First and the Last, who died and came to life again.

This introduction to this community is an assurance or hope that death isn’t their conclusion. The lord will lead them into eternal life. The community of believers suffered false accusation by Jewish group of people who were in opposition to Christians at the time using the powers of the empire to crush the community of believers

Rev 2:10 Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life.

Rev 2:11 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes will not be hurt at all by the second death.

Our hope in christ isn’t tedious , remember our hope has overwhelming substance beyond our imagination

In my conclusion in the midst of facing death, Jesus reassures the community that a crown awaits them and the second death will not harm them. Our hope is enough if we look beyond this life

1Cr 15:19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most miserable.

Hope is eternal, that should transcend our reality, to Gods eternal realities knowing the defining factor is we will all pass away at some time but what we see around us is a huge painted picture of this world that reflects another world that’s lasting and eternal, called the kingdom of God, to those who accept and believe in “JESUS”

This is a series: of the seven churches of revelation : Ephesus: lost the romance next in the series “Pergamos”

“fellowship is life”
